Osama Gasimelseed Bakhit Hassan

Osama Hassan is a Sudanese water-resources researcher specializing in socio-hydrology, hydro-economic modelling, climate adaptation, and water governance. He holds an MSc in Hydroinformatics from IHE Delft and currently works at IMDEA Water/Universidad de Alcalá, where his research explores how human behaviour, institutions, and climate change interact with water systems. His work spans diverse water challenges and contexts, including the Blue Nile Basin, the Mahanadi Basin in India, and projects across Europe, Australia, North America, and Asia. Through international initiatives such as TRANSCEND and WaterTheft, he investigates sustainable water allocation, stakeholder behaviour, water-use compliance, and pathways for climate-resilient water governance. He is particularly interested in translating scientific evidence into practical policy and strengthening cooperation among communities, researchers, water users, and institutions. Beyond research, Osama is passionate about youth engagement and using science to support more equitable and resilient water futures. Outside the water sector, he is an enthusiastic football fan and enjoys tactical and match analysis as a hobby.
