Founder & Chief Executive Officer Life From Water Foundation
Mohanad Hesham Abouelrouse is the Founder and CEO of Life From Water Foundation, where he has spent fourteen years building community-managed water services in underserved communities across Egypt and East Africa. His work centres on decentralised treatment units that communities own and run, and on what makes access last: operator training, technical follow-up, spare parts, affordability and accountability. Its water, agriculture and climate-resilience programmes have reached more than one million people. Much of that work is capacity building. A certified trainer who has taught thousands of learners, he is most interested in equipping the young operators, technicians and NGO staff who keep water systems running long after a project ends. He works where field practice meets evidence and policy. With Giulia Buccione, Martin Rossi and the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, he supported a study of household adoption and willingness to pay for filtered water in rural Egypt. He is also piloting WaterEye, a responsible-AI tool helping operators monitor performance and flag maintenance risks, built to support engineers, not replace them. He is an Ashoka Fellow with an MBA from Edinburgh Business School, and has attended COP28 and as a speaker in regional dialogue convened by UN ESCWA in Beirut.
