Lissong Diop is a PhD student, geospatial researcher, and advocate for the use of artificial intelligence in addressing environmental challenges in Senegal. Her research focuses on monitoring temporary ponds in the Ferlo pastoral region of Senegal using Earth observation and artificial intelligence, with the aim of improving assessments of water availability and vulnerability in data scarce regions. She is passionate about translating geospatial data into actionable information for communities and decision makers. Through initiatives such as the WENDOU community of practice, she has contributed to connecting pastoral communities, researchers, and decision makers around the monitoring and sustainable management of water resources. Lissong is also committed to making science and technology accessible to everyone, particularly young people from vulnerable communities. She actively contributes to capacity building and knowledge sharing, helping young people develop the skills and confidence to use technology to address environmental challenges. This commitment has led her to engage in initiatives such as the African Wildlife Foundation Geospatial Leadership and GEO LDN, where she has opportunities to learn from others, share her experience, and contribute to a growing community of young geospatial professionals.
