Fatoumata Fofana

Fatoumata Fofana is a Guinean sustainability and youth development professional working at the intersection of water, climate action, science, and youth engagement. She holds a Master's degree in Environmental Management from the University of Malaya, where her research examined microplastic pollution in urban freshwater ecosystems in Malaysia, combining laboratory analysis with community-level sampling to trace how contaminants move through urban waterways. At the UNDP Rome Centre, Fatoumata supports Youth4Climate, contributing to youth engagement, capacity development, learning, and global collaboration on climate action. She also serves as an SDG 6 Team Lead with AIIDEV Africa, supporting youth-led efforts on water and sanitation across Africa. Fatoumata is engaged in global climate and sustainability spaces through YOUNGO and its Action for Climate Empowerment Working Group, and is a Hamburg Sustainability Conference Youth Ambassador, contributing to high-level discussions on sustainability and water priorities. She is passionate about connecting science, policy, and community action to advance inclusive and meaningful youth participation in sustainable development, and sees the 2026 UN Water Conference as a critical moment for young people from the Global South to help shape the freshwater agenda.
