Fatima Mawele
Communications and Advocacy Specialist Zambian Governance Foundation for Civil Society
Fatima Mawele is a Zambian communications and advocacy professional passionate about using storytelling, media and strategic communication to advance community-led development. As Communications and Advocacy Specialist at the Zambian Governance Foundation, she works with civil society organisations, local communities and young people to strengthen local voices and influence development conversations. Fatima has helped lead initiatives that create spaces for young people to engage with complex development challenges. She was part of the team behind Zambia’s first Mini COP, which brought together young people and other stakeholders to explore climate justice through locally grounded conversations and creative approaches. She has also led youth engagement through the Shifting the Power programme, including university debates across Zambia, Malawi and Ghana, as well as a poetry competition that encouraged young people to propose climate solutions through creative arts. Her work regularly takes her into rural communities, where she has witnessed how challenges around water access, climate change, livelihoods and local development intersect. As a Global Youth Water Envoy, Fatima is interested in connecting these lived realities with global water conversations and championing meaningful youth and community participation in governance.
