Buame Omaw Vatussias
Communications Assistant The Global Green Growth Institute
Omaw Buame is Togolese. He works as a communications and sustainable development professional in his country. As a Communications Assistant at the Global Green Growth Institute, his work has translated complex issues related to climate resilience, sustainable forestry, carbon markets, and green growth into accessible, evidence-based content for public institutions, development partners, and local communities. Drawing on previous experience in research, digital humanities, and knowledge management, he works to strengthen engagement between technical experts and the communities their projects are meant to serve, translating dense policy and scientific language into material that non-specialists can actually use. He is interested in going deeper into the connections between water, climate, and community resilience, as well as the role of youth leadership and strategic communication in advancing inclusive environmental action. Omaw sees communication as an underrated part of climate and water work: even well-designed green growth and carbon-market initiatives fail to gain community buy-in if the reasoning behind them is never made accessible. Through the Global Youth Water Envoys Program, he hopes to bring this communications-focused perspective from Togo to the international conversation on inclusive water and climate governance ahead of the 2026 UN Water Conference.
