Awat Bertrand Abanyi
Environmentalist Green and Better World,
Awat Bertrand Abanyi is the Founder of Green Globe Organisation, Focal Point of the Cameroon Climate Justice Movement, Volunteer Coordinator for Green and Better World Organization, and a current Lake Chad Climate Justice Youth Fellow. He is the visionary behind the Climate Rescuers Programme, which has empowered over 3,700 young people to become environmental stewards. He has led more than five major ecosystem restoration projects, established 12 environmental clubs and four community orchards, and currently hosts a weekly interactive environmental radio talk show that promotes environmental awareness and community action across Cameroon. His work through the Lake Chad Climate Justice Youth Fellowship connects him directly to one of the clearest examples of water-related climate crisis on the continent, the shrinking of Lake Chad, and to the communities whose livelihoods depend on its recovery. A recipient of multiple leadership and environmental awards, Awat is deeply committed to advancing community-led conservation, climate justice, and sustainable development through youth engagement and innovation, and through the Global Youth Water Envoys Program hopes to connect the Lake Chad basin's water crisis to the wider international conversation ahead of the 2026 UN Water Conference.
