Arslan Azeem
IWRM and Agricultural Researcher McGill University
Arslan Azeem is an MSc Bioresource Engineering student at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, where he is specializing in Integrated Water Resource Management. His family has owned a Western Canadian crop exporting agribusiness for sixteen years, and he is currently researching how drought, monsoons, streamflow, rainfall, and irrigation affect global commodity markets and trade policies. Arslan was previously a member of the United Nations Office for Project Services' global youth council, where he made suggestions on their guidelines for developing inclusive water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure. As an undergraduate, he co-founded a water-tech startup that attempted to track water security and population health metrics in remote areas across Canada, which was a finalist in a national International Institute for Sustainable Development hackathon. In the future, Arslan hopes to continue his research at the intersection of agriculture, water, food security, and environmental economics, particularly on how climate-driven shifts in water availability ripple through global trade and food systems. He is also a hobbyist urban designer, and would like to see ancient cities harmonize modern water technologies into their historical cultures.
